Now, I'm confused.

I'll have a piece of pie and calm down.

I noticed something like this last week when, out of curiosity, I eliminated almost all processed carbs from my diet. Just fruit and protein, mostly. what happened was that my appetite simply diminished away. I went to a pizza restaurant and ate one slice. I haven't had just one slice since I was four years old.

Half the time, I don't know what this article is even talking about. The author is acting like all weight-loss experts think high carb diets are key to staying thin.

Huh? Maybe it's just me, but hasn't pretty much everyone known that high carb diets do pretty much the exact opposite? The problem with the Atkins diet wasn't that people weren't losing weight, it's that it isn't realistic to think people could keep it up for very long, and may not be healthy to completely cut out carbs for an extended period of time. I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that high protein, low carb diets help get the weight off.

I started working out and dieting a few months ago after gaining a bunch of weight, and I looked around all over the internet for tips to see if I was doing things right. I can't think of a single site that I found that didn't say "consume lots of protein, cut back on carbs."

Eating more protein and fat as a percentage of your diet will improve satiety; that's one reason that I think they work well. I think insulin definitely has some role as well.

Good old fashioned calorie counting is the best weight-loss diet there is. Anyone who says different is probably just trying to make money.

Limit yourself to 1000 calories a day (no cheating) and you lose weight. See how that's too simple to fill a book or website with? That's why people work so hard to obscure the simple truth. No money in it.

re: #3 JamesWI

The US government pushed low fat diets for decades. They're slowly shifting to 'choose good fats over bad fats'. There are still low fat diets recommended by the American Heart Assn. and the like.

You didn't read the article, did you.

Sure, you can lose weight that way, but you can't keep it off.
